Internship at MediaFutures

In the summer of 2022 I had the privilege of working with MediaFutures, a Bergen-based research center that focuses on responsible media usage. I was contracted with the objective of developing a solution for participants to willingly donate and consent to the use of anonymized versions of their “GDPR data packages” in specific research projects conducted at the center. Experiences i had during this project include but are not limited to:

  • Adapting the framework in the back end to serve the requirements of the project using python.
  • Creating a front end environment for the participant to engage with, using HTML, CSS, and javascript through VueJS and ReactJS.
  • Deep dive on cybersecurity issues pertaining to safe handoff and storage of sensitive data packages.
  • Creating guides for (often technically illiterate) participants on how to request and download their GDPR data packages from large actors such as Meta, Schibsted, or Alphabet.

The result of the project was a working prototype that the project manager could present with the hopes of securing funds for further research.
